High School Graduation Invitations: Choosing the Date to Celebrate

Obviously, your high school graduate is going to want a party near the time of the actual graduation. However, if that's what you plan to do you may want to start planning well in advance or you could decide to take whatever date works best for your more spontaneous plans.

If you begin planning in advance, talk to your graduate about who will be on the guest list. Most high school graduating events will include a lot of other teenagers but you may want to ask your son or daughter if family members and other friends should also be included. If not, consider having a smaller, second party just for the family.

Once you know how many people may be attending, start looking for locations several months ahead of time. Because so many similar parties will be held throughout your city, you need to secure your date and hold it with a deposit as quickly as possible. Remember to ask about the location's cancellation policy before signing any contracts. You don't want to lose your money if everything does go as planned with the class graduating high school .

If you're worried about many of the guests making alternative plans, send out save the date cards to make sure they won't double book for the same day.

On the other hand, if you prefer to wait until closer to the end of the school year to make your plans. Sit down with your son or daughter and brainstorm a few possible dates for the event. Then ask your son or daughter to check with friends (or whomever is on the guest list) to see which date works the best for the largest number of guests. Go with that date and start calling around for a location. If you can't book a hall for the high school graduation event, consider the party room of a restaurant, the backyard of your home, or even a suite at a nearby hotel.

Other High School Graduation Considerations

Be prepared for your son or daughter to not want you or other adults at their party. However, you should insist on adult supervision because you are responsible for the well-being of all your guests. You should respect your child's wishes about who to invite and who not to invite to this party though. Remember this is his or her high school graduation and they've worked hard for it. Let them enjoy their special night with their friends.
