Funeral Cards and Funeral Memorial Cards for Those Bereavement Occasions

If you've ever lost someone close to you, you already know that it meant a lot to know that other people were there to help you through that difficult time in your life. Personalized Funeral Cards are one way of letting other people know that you do care for them and their loss. However, sending memorial cards can make many of us feel awkward. Few of us feel comfortable writing a funeral card message and most of us don't really even know to whom or when such condolence cards should be sent. Below are some guidelines that might be helpful.

Death Cards: A Few Basic Guidelines

When you hear about the passing of someone you knew or the close loved one of someone you knew, it's a good idea to get started on your obituary cards. Remember that you don't have to write much for your funeral verses to be effective at easing the grief of the family. For example, you could simply "I am so sorry to hear about your husband's passing . My heart goes out to you."

If you knew the deceased, however, you may want to add a little more detail. You could send a message such as the following: "After working with Chris for so many years at Acme, I was shocked to learn that he had passed away. I am so sorry for your loss because I know how much you meant to Chris. I will always miss his jokes and fun loving personality. He will truly be missed. Your family will be in our prayers."

Of course, there are also some things you wouldn't want to say on any memorial card. For example, you wouldn't want to try to ease the person's pain through empathy. Right now, he or she doesn't want to know how you lost a spouse or family member and have overcome your grief successfully. While you may have the bereaved's best interest at heart, he or she is unlikely to be touched by the words.

It's also not a good idea to make a generic offer to assist in some way. There's nothing wrong with offering to help but you should be specific in the way that you would be willing to help. For example, you might say "If you need someone to watch the children or to cook a meal so you can have some time alone or a chance to get out of the house, just give me a call."

Printed Funeral Cards Thank You & Etiquette

Of course, if you're the person receiving those printable funeral cards, you'll be facing a different challenge: expressing your appreciation for everything other people have done for you and your family. Generally, you should send your thank you funeral cards within two weeks but because of the situation etiquette rules are more flexible. You should try to have a thank you funeral card ready for each person and in the mail within a month.
